Nursing home chiefs press legislators over regional pay gaps

Jackson County Nursing Home administrators, led by Richard Ligon, told lawmakers that Illinois regionalizes Medicaid reimbursements into 11 zones, giving Region 5 the lowest rate despite similar care. They decry a new twice yearly point system with expanded categories increasing paperwork and reducing patient care time. Public hearings revealed concerns about inequities and pending changes starting January 1982. Figures from Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin echoed that the reform worsens charting and care time. Legislators urged a lobbying push to base rates on statewide cost of living and to dissolve regional disparities if supported by the Public Aid Department.
