Fair opens with parade as governor absent at ribbon cutting
The Du Quoin State Fair began with a ribbon cutting lacking the governor. Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Comptroller Dan Hynes attended the ceremony. Giannoulias and Rep. John Bradley did not take part in the ceremony but marched in the Twilight Parade. Residents lined U S 51 and fairgrounds to watch bands and receive a sense of a busy ten day run. Officials expressed optimism despite possible rain and noted new rides at the midway by Miller Spectacular Shows Inc. Police officials expect normal enforcement with additional traffic and security, stressing the event remains family oriented and safely managed.
