Perry County housing set for HUD grant upgrades
Perry County housing residences will receive a 635,923 grant from the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development for fiscal 2001 improvements. Planned work includes kitchen and bathroom upgrades, new roofs, windows, downspouts, landscaping, and playground additions at Bel Aire Homes Village Green Acres Bel Aire Towers and West Park Development. Elevator upgrades at Bel-Aire Towers began this week and should finish by Christmas.

Pyatts Wye intersection repairs under IDOT scrutiny
At Pyatt's Wye south of Pinckneyville IDOT rebuilt the intersection after seven wrecks from 1996 to 1999 and two fatalities in 1997. Despite $2.07 million in changes making a T intersection, drivers still struggle with limited southward visibility. Crews remove dirt and rework the southwest quadrant to extend sight lines, adjust stop bar position, reseed, and monitor driving behavior.
