Hogs traded moderately active with barrows and gilts down about 50 cents. 1-2 230-260 lb hogs brought 48.00 to 48.50, 2-3 260-280 lb hogs 47.50 to 48.00. Lows across weights fell about 1.00 with 300-400 lb at 38.00, 400-500 lb at 39.00, 500-700 lb 40.00-41.00. Boars over 300 lb 24.00, under 300 lb 37.00. Cattle none.
New York equities slid with skittish investors showing little reason to buy amid slim chances of near term improvement. Stocks dropped across sectors after technology shares ceded early gains as bargain hunters searched for specific issues and a short timetable.
Chicago exchanges reported lower soybean futures for a second day amid changes in Midwest weather. Wheat for December gained 5. cents to 2.91 a bushel, December corn rose 3. cents to 2.31 a bushel, and December oats increased 1 cent to 1.32 a bushel while November soybeans slipped to 4.82 a bushel.
Stock indices closed with the Dow Jones at 10,229.15 up 47.75 points while the S and P 500 reached 1,162.00, gaining 3.22. The NYSE composite stood at 600.89 with modest gains, and the Russell 2000 slipped 3.76 to 473.42 as total consolidated issues traded neared 3.33 thousand.
