Corps releases $42 million for Southern Illinois projects

Representative Kenneth J. Gray announces the U S Army Corps of Engineers released over 42 million to start or continue area projects for fiscal year 1974. Funds cover broad construction in four offices including St Louis Kentucky and Tennessee with emphasis on flood drainage surveys and timed projects from Monroe County to Cairo. Major items include 155000 for Big Muddy Basin investigations 758000 for Kaskaskia River maintenance 87 million for Kaskaskia River navigation 1 million for Lock and Dam 53 at Mound City and 24 million for Rend Lake construction and 806000 for Rend Lake operations.

Grand jury indicts 34 in Benton court action

The Federal Grand Jury in Benton issued 34 indictments on Monday and Tuesday. Rodger Dale Cook, an inmate at Marion penitentiary, faces an escape charge from November 11, 1972. Richard Wayne Munk and Kathleen Louise Munk of Makanda are indicted for possession with intent to distribute LSD and using mail for distribution. In Malaysia a rock found near Kuala Lumpur thought to be gold was pyrite-fools gold.
