Central Illinois farmers urge earlier and higher land set aside pay
About 300 central Illinois farmers meeting in Champaign sponsored by the ASCS urged earlier announcement of next year s farm program and higher payments for taking land out of production. They favored a 10 percent set aside, a nationwide mandatory plan with 100 percent parity, and base payments on total farm acres. They warned of policing challenges and noted participation was only about 38 percent under the current voluntary program.
