Architect on the job Lewis Park Meadows review
The Lewis Park Meadows Planned Development is evolving after the Aug. 7 Carbondale Plan Commission meeting as an architect joins to steer original plans toward cohesion. Commission members previously disapproved of proposed commercial elements, citing lack of unity and an excessive trade level for the area. A recent meeting yielded no binding decisions, but all parties continue working from the original plan, including a brochure approved in June 1966 showing residential sites and neighborhood businesses. The developers must secure commission approval for any significant deviations as these are viewed as special exceptions. A proposed theater in the Lewis Park area is considered acceptable if it fits the neighborhood plan. Final approval was granted for Wedgerood Terrace West subdivision off West Freeman Street. Three women injured in a car-train crash near Gorham remained in or near hospital care with conditions unchanged. Richard Lawson of SIU attended an institute in New York on Negro literature funded by the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities.
