Cheaper on campus housing draws students back
Illinois universities face a housing squeeze as more than 4,000 students seek on campus rooms. ISU reports about 1,500 on a wait list with room and board at 1400 annually, while NIU reports 1,100 waiting and 7,000 rooms occupied. SIUC and UI also cite rising off campus costs, with typical dorms offering better value and convenience despite limited space.

Americans Worried Over Declining Dollar Soaring Since Six Months
Louis Harris reports a shift in public concern as 80 percent of Americans now express worry about the dollar’s decline, up from 69 percent six months ago. About 47 percent fear the slide “greatly,” up from 30 percent, with fears centered on energy imports, trade imbalances, inflation control, and expectations of tough domestic measures. Public confidence in President Carter also wanes as the dollar weakens.
