Herrin Mayor Drives Fund Need for Water Plant
Herrin Mayor Fred Henderson cites a car count of 59 from license plates at the Container Stapler Corp plant and a nearby facility to support a $620,000 federal water plant expansion. He says Herrin has already shouldered local job support and urges government help, noting eight local owners among the drivers and two company cars. Henderson, a psychologist by training, asserts the city cannot fund all regional needs alone and cites extensive local water and sewer work funded by over a half million dollars. An Area Redevelopment Administration grant request includes $620,000 for plant capacity, plus a $100,000 grant from the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agency and a $50,000 city contribution.
