Computer analysis to study campaign speech and news coverage
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will use a campus computer to analyze campaign speech content and resulting news coverage for the 1968 presidential race. Associate professor John W. Ellsworth leads the research, sampling Nixon and Kennedy speeches and current network and press coverage to profile oratory and references.

Sparta hospital benefit auction draws public support
The Sparta Hospital Auxiliary hosts its ninth annual benefit at the Sparta Fair grounds with Ron Stephenson as auctioneer. A rummage sale starts at 8 a.m. and the main auction at 11. SIU engineer Pfannbuch earns grants for water storage research
Hans O. Pfannbuch, assistant professor at Southern Illinois University School of Technology, received $710 in grants for studying underground formations capacity to store and release water.
