Herrin Plans Tap Fees For Private Lines At City Council
At the August 26 Herrin City Council meeting officials pledged to require a tap fee for all connections to the city water and sewer system whether lines are city owned or privately installed. Water Supt. Miriani asked for clarification as some tapping privately owned lines felt no city charge. The council agreed all taps require a fee since the city processes water and sewage. The city could aid the Mosquito Abatement District with $1,500 for supplies and $1,400 for salaries, though the district is a separate tax-levying body. District president Bailey requested $201 for a spray truck driver’s pay. The finance committee will report next.
