Extreme dry conditions, lightning storms, and gusty winds fueled a series of large fires in northern Nevada. The biggest blaze, 25 miles north of Battle Mountain, grew to 82,000 acres as wind shifted. A railroad segment near Battle Mountain was briefly closed. Nevada’s seven largest fires surpassed 100,000 acres since Wednesday. In California, a Mendocino National Forest fire reached 11,700 acres with 51 percent containment and 11 homes destroyed.
