Coulterville teachers in contract talks
Coulterville school district teachers face a two year contract expiry on August 15 and progress in negotiations is reported as cordial. Superintendent Harris says no work stoppage is expected if school starts before ratification. A next session is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with pre negotiation conferences at 6 p.m. Harris notes the district phone number has changed to (618) 758-2881.

Hearing in shooting rescheduled in Jackson County
In Carbondale, 89-year-old John Howard Jr.’s pretrial hearing on aggravated discharge of a firearm and felon in possession was reset to Sept 4 after his lawyer sought more time to interview four witnesses. Howard, free on bond, allegedly fired at Sylvester Schoffner on East Burke Street following a dispute over repair costs.
