Reagan approves neutron warheads stockpiling in U S
President Reagan approved production and stockpiling of neutron warheads for Lance missiles and an eight inch howitzer shell. Warheads will be kept in the United States with no deployment outside U S territory. State Department notes the decision is internal to the U S government and no outside deployment planned at this time. Confirmation came from deputy White House press secretary Larry Speakes in Santa Barbara. Allies in Western Europe have generally opposed deployment.
