Phase 4 price controls to start Monday nationwide
Secretary Frederick B. Dent announced Phase 4 anti inflation controls will replace the current 60 day price freeze starting Monday. He cited strong public demand for price limits and said the steps aim to moderate inflation without crippling supply while allowing costs to adjust. Higher prices are expected after the freeze ends, with Agriculture and Cost of Living Council forecasts noting possible impacts from exports and the cooling economy.

Senate Watergate panels Lose Interest in Phases Two and Three
Washington Star News reports members of the Senate Watergate committee show reduced interest in pursuing phase two on political dirty tricks and phase three on campaign financing. In an executive session they aim to wrap up both phases by October, with hearings possibly run concurrently by subcommittees. Chairman Dash and staff seek to treat Watergate as part of broader issues such as political espionage and campaign financing, and to evaluate the extensive testimony to determine possible perjury and what to forward to Archibald Cox for possible criminal prosecutions.
