Murphysboro Barbecue Cook-Off set for September return
Murphysboro will host its annual barbecue contest September 20 to 22 despite losing Memphis in May sanctioning for this year. Mike Mills and Gary Strothmann lead a new committee under Murphysboro Barbecue Cook-Off, with plans to secure future sanctioning and keep the event’s prestige. The prize pool rises to 8000 dollars across whole hog, pork shoulder, and ribs, and the grand champion will be invited to other competitions while receiving Illinois State Champion honors.
