Niagara Plant Blast Kills 2 in Niagara Falls
An explosion at the Olin Mathieson Chemical plant killed two men and injured 16 others. John Holland said all personnel were accounted for. a third initially reported dead was among the injured. Victims Herman Strablow and John Maule were 29 and 34, from Bergholtz and Niagara Falls. The blast demolished one building and damaged several. fire was controlled in about two hours. Ronald Murphy age 3 and Charles Murphy age 12 sons of Mr and Mrs Charles Murphy of 1200 W Madison in Herrin are recovering from polio in St Anthony's Hospital St Louis. Doctors confirmed polio in the older boy and said both boys should return home in about four days. Charles was brought to the hospital Saturday for observation and Ronald was taken last Wednesday after a Herrin doctor diagnosed polio.

Tornado damages South Dakota hospital and 40 buildings
A Monday night tornado tore off the roof of the community hospital in South Dakota, demolished 40 buildings and caused about half a million dollars in damage. There were no reported deaths or serious injuries.
