Racer dies in crash at 1 57 Dragstrip
Franklin County deputies report a 23 year old motorcycle rider, Dustin James Murphy, died after losing control at the 1-57 Dragstrip during Grudge Racing. The crash involved a high speed wobble and guardrail impact at about 11 pm. Murphy was clocked at 90 mph. helmets are required at the strip.

Sparta hosts Grand American at new World Shooting Complex
After five years of planning the Grand American trapshooting championship opens at Sparta Illinois's 1,500 acre World Shooting and Recreation Complex. Officials estimate 6,000 to 10,000 spectators and 1,000 camping spots. admission for spectators is free. The event runs daily from morning to evening with shooting by ATA members only.
