Carlinville Gas Blast Kills Woman and Grandson
A 7:30 a.m. explosion in Carlinville destroyed a home killing a 55-year-old woman, Margaret Hatlen, and her 9-year-old grandson Michael Albracht. Two of Hatlen’s sons were severely burned and airlifted to a Springfield hospital. an 88-year-old neighbor was treated for cuts. Police suspect a natural gas leak. Ameren confirms no prior leak reports and aid from utility workers is ongoing.
