Illinois State Fair marks 151st celebration and long tradition
Springfield officials promote the 151st Illinois State Fair running Friday to Aug 17 drawing 1.2 million visitors. Murphysboro bids crime farewell at National Night Out
Murphysboro hosts the sixth annual National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. at Longfellow Park Logan Street. About 1,000 residents join the Murphysboro Police Department Neighborhood Watch and Red Cross in a crime-fighting farewell with events for kids and adults. Community members can pick up 200 child identification kits with a photo fingerprint and DNA sample. The program, ranked first in its population category in Illinois last year, offers activities including a dunking booth fish casting a helicopter flyover, tug of war, volleyball, recliner race and doughnut contest.
