Cubs Edge Cardinals 3-2 Behind Krukow In Tight Win

Cubs pitcher Mike Krukow earned his fifth win and blanked the Cardinals until the ninth as Chicago beat St. Louis 3-2. Rodman Scott opened the scoring with a bunt single, and Mike Vail added a two‑run triple and an RBI single to lift the Cubs while Bruce Sutter closed out the save. Cardinals starter Aurelio Lopez was hurt by two first‑inning runs and the Redbirds, in last place in the NL East, failed to capitalize despite Ted Simmons’ homer and five hits by Krukow’s offense. The win leaves the Cubs four games behind the Phillies.
