Goreville mayor threatens suit over water hookups deadline
Goreville residents within the village limits may have until mid August to connect to the water and sewer system. Mayor Ralph Zech warned he will be sued if the Aug 15 deadline is not met. The council took no action, and the attorney for Goreville said he needs to study the ordinance before commenting. About 350 homes rely on pond water with a small filtration system. Connection costs were cited at 300 to 500 dollars per house, a burden for fixed incomes. Zech suggested partial payments and noted welfare aid may cover some costs. Bills were also discussed to ensure monthly meter readings and charges.
