Computer processing course at SIU trains Carbondale youths
Twelve high school youths from Carbondale participate in a work learn computer data processing program at Southern Illinois University. They learn FORTRAN and punch card skills while receiving weekly pay as incentive. The four week program runs through next Wednesday and is funded by area businesses and community groups. Participants include Alisa Anderson, Maxine Berry, Linda English, Joyce Jones and others.

Senior Citizens Rally Planned by Herrin Club
The Herrin Senior Citizens Club sponsors a rally and luck supper Monday for area seniors from Carbondale Johnston City and Marion. Supper starts 6 30 p m at the Herrin City big shelter with music by George Bennett and his band. Prizes honor oldest couples oldest bachelor oldest old maid oldest man oldest woman and senior with youngest child. Donated by Herrin merchants. The surface temperature of Venus at its day reaches about 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

Shots Wound Two Police in Ambush in Brooklyn
