Alejandro Dominguez, who spent over four years imprisoned for a 1989 rape, left Lake County courthouse with a judge ordering him not to be listed as a sex offender. New DNA tests matched none of the semen found on the victim, supporting innocence and prompting prosecutors to concede.
Alton Coleman, the sole death-row inmate in three states, was executed by injection at 10:07 a.m. at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility for one of four murders in a 1984 crime spree. Witnesses, including the victim's husband, watched via closed circuit TV as Coleman recited Psalm 23 and died six minutes after entering the gurney.
The Illinois State Historical Library receives five Lincoln related collections including Grace Bedell’s beard letter and items from the Bedell home, Lincoln tomb leaf, and a 1845 deed.
