Scientists using cooling rates of ancient white dwarfs in the M4 star cluster estimate the universe is about 13 billion years old, slightly younger than prior 13 to 14 billion year figures. The result aligns closely with earlier expansion-based estimates, supporting a Big Bang origin within a 10 percent range.
