Seminary students keep faith during Catholic church scandals

Chicago scenes show men like David Kobak drawn to priesthood despite abuse scandals. The Center for Applied Research reports a long term decline in priests from 58,632 in 1965 to 45,191 in 2001, with graduate enrollees down from 8,159 in 1967-68 to 3,584 now. Church leaders warn the recruitment slide may persist without addressing celibacy and related issues.
