A 19 bed halfway house for substance abusers opens Monday in Marion behind the Garavalla Building on West Main Street. Run by Franklin-Williamson Human Services, it connects to a 29 bed facility and a third building for short-term residents with 15 beds.
Special day of fun at Tri-County Center grows into a community event at SI Bowl in Murphysboro. Frank Bleyer and Paul Cerniglia helped expand it in 1988, with continued support from new owners Doug Cottom and Steve Ludwig and Rend Lake Beverages. Elaine Parker mobilized START students to assist. Volunteers serve lunches, arrange shoes, and welcome participants from sheltered workshops and facilities as plans turn to May Fishing Day at Bleyer’s private lake.
