Local Herrin man dies in Perryville crash
Mike Tomkins, 39, of Herrin died in a car crash on Route H near PCR 936 in Perryville Missouri around 8 am Monday. His vehicle overcorrected after leaving the road and collided with an oncoming car driven by James Buck 44 of Cape Girardeau who swerved to avoid the crash. Buck’s vehicle overturned. Tomkins was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

Brookport Bridge crash injures two drivers
Two motorists were hurt in a Brookport Bridge collision at about 9 35 a m on Monday. Jacqueline J Warren 26 Paducah lost control and struck Ruth A Ellis 48 Metropolis who had stopped in the southbound lane. Both were taken to Western Baptist Hospital for non life threatening injuries. Investigation ongoing.

Chester expands meth bust arrests with two more charged
Chester police add Laura Lailer and Emily Albaugh to six suspects tied to the March 17 meth raid at Virgil Wayne Chambers home. Chambers, 46, is jailed on 200000 dollar bond after authorities seized more than 1600 grams of meth containing substances. Three others—David Roche Amber Verville and Cathy Peeler—were arrested. Peeler posted bail. Investigators say more arrests may follow.

Herrin to finish 3.8 million sports complex this August
Herrin High School completes a 3.8 million sports complex on 54 acres off Bandyville Road after a five year feasibility study led by Superintendent Mark Collins. The project includes two baseball diamonds two softball diamonds four soccer fields eight tennis courts a mile long track and facilities to host state sectional and regional events. Construction by Fager McGee and design by Lunsford Architects & Engineers will wrap August 2 backed by a Williamson County sales tax referendum yielding about 1.5 million annually for district projects.
