Dismissal of Sex Abuse Suit Against Murphysboro School Board
Circuit Judge William G. Schwartz ruled the sex abuse lawsuit filed by Jacqueline Jamie McCann against Murphysboro School District 186, its superintendent Michael Mugge, and Denise McDowell was too late under state statutes. The suit, filed Nov 21, 2001, claimed a teacher and former mayor David McDowell abused her since age 13. The board president Kevin Bame said the board believes the suit had no merit and insurance will cover attorney fees. McCann may seek reconsideration or an appeal within 30 days.
