County order restricts vehicle use on wet roads in Coos county

Grand Theatre at Bandon Destroyed by Fire

The Grand Theatre building in Bandon burned down after being discovered at 1 o clock Tuesday morning. Total loss estimated at 15 000 to 20 000 tied to an insured Odd Fellows building with 4 000 coverage. Firefighters from the tug Ely hiam pumped salt water from the Coquille river to save the town. Fixtures owned by Mrs E A Hartman and son, with organ insurance only.

Baynes Home Fire Tests New Siren Effect

Thursday afternoon a blaze broke out at the Baynes home but Mrs. Baynes extinguished it before the fire department arrived. The new siren drew out residents quickly and aided rapid response, with praise for the firemen's swift hose cart work.

Alice Dement, Myrtle Point student, earned a staff position on the Daily Palo Alto at first trial. From 65 applicants she was one of 15 chosen, judged on English, punctuation, coverage, and news gathering. Blanche Lee remains bedfast after appendicitis surgery and rheumatic attack.

Our local high school faces Marshfield at Marsh field next Saturday October 29. Marshfield recently defeated North Bend 7 to 0 and Myrtle Point 46 to 0, and both teams look strong as they chase a win. Fans urged to attend and cheer the home team to victory.

City Council Passes Water Chlorination Plan After Typhoid Cases

The City Council met Wednesday with Dr Pemberton to approve a chlorine injector for the water system and expect installation within a week. Typhoid cases linked to city water include Mrs A C Chase and daughter, with others using well water. Death and funeral of Esther Radabaugh Guthardt in Norway Oregon

Esther Mathilla Radabaugh Guthardt was born October 27 1896 in Norway Oregon and died October 25 1921 nearby after a diphtheria illness. She left a husband Adam Guthardt and two children John age 3 Evelyn age 1, with funeral plans set for October 29 at 1 30 PM in the Norway Cemetery. Her parents Mr and Mrs Henry Radabaugh of Lindsey California and sister Mrs Johnnie Ray survive.

Health officer visit urges full time county service

Dr F D Stricker state health officer and Dr Foard of Washington DC toured the county to promote a full time county health officer. They argued rural health needs are high and a full time service would reduce disease, boost overall health, and benefit Marshfield North Bend Bandon Coquille Myrtle Point and surrounding farms despite extra cost.

Peculiar accident during veterinary procedure near Norway

While trying to remove a large carrot from a cow's throat near Norway on Wednesday evening, Dr Masson's arm was cut by the animal's teeth. A steel speculum in the cow's mouth prevented a worse injury, leaving a one and a half inch gash on the forearm. The cow improved and Dr Masson will recover after several sore days. The writer notes such incidents are rare among veterinarians given the animals' distress.
