Fire Destroys Hermann Country Home Near Broadbent
A noon Monday blaze destroyed the three story Hermann house built in 1904 near Broadbent. Valued at 12 000 to 15 000 the white cedar and maple interior home burned after a small adjoining house caught fire first. The nearby dairy barn also caught fire but the chemical truck limited damage there. Loss includes 3000 on the house and 500 on household goods.

Fatal Railroad Accident Kills Mrs Cochran in Bangor
A fatal train crash on the first day of a new railroad coach run in Bangor left Mrs A C Cochran dead at the scene. Her husband A C Cochran, junior, died later at the hospital. Thelma Cochran, who was driving the car, suffered serious injuries. Ivan Bryant, the Cochran's brother in law, was also hurt but less severely. Mr and Mrs Cochran have three children Thelma Dallas 14 and Iva 10 are named survivors.

Memorial Services Held For Veterans In City Church
Memorial services were conducted at the Christian church on Sunday May 25 with united choirs and war era music. Veterans from Union and Confederate ranks attended along with World War I and Spanish War veterans and auxiliary members. A sermon by Rev MacDonald followed prayers by Idso of the M E Church and a Scripture reading from II Timothy. Further services are planned for May 30 at Myrtle Point cemetery under Col Jewell Post No 53.

Ten Mile Wins Close Game At Bridge
A real game of task ball was played on Sunday at Ten Mile and Bridge with Ten Mile taking a 9 to 10 victory. The next match between these contestants will be at Bridge on Sunday May 25. Local Boy Scouts were beaten by Cogville by one point last Saturday in a game between the two locations.

Graduation Exercises Held Friday Night at University Theater
The Myrtle Point ceremony filled the University theater as 22 graduates, 11 boys and 11 girls, received diplomas. Alfred Powers of the University of Oregon spoke on progress from 1824 to today, highlighting the need for higher education and its importance for youth. Marguerite Laird won the scholarship award for outstanding grades among Myrtle Point students.
