Local man fined after street truck crash at station

C A Jefferis arrived from Yakima and drove Jennings truck to bring trunks from the depot when he lost control near Emery's corner. His vehicle wrecked the pergola and injured two boys and Amos Thomas slightly. he pleaded guilty and was fined, aiming to settle in the area as a potential permanent resident.

Council Rejects All Bids for Tunnel Project

The city council rejected all bids for the tunnel after high right of way demands and inflated prices. They plan an electrically driven pump with automatic control, larger pipe, a dam at the spring, and possible future pumping from Nott Fork to prevent a water shortage. An adjourned meeting followed to finalize plans and begin work. Three street improvement petitions were considered. two accepted, one returned for revision.

Myrtle Point Boy Killed in Logging Camp

Jacob P. Ames, known in Myrtle Point, was crushed by a rolling log at a logging camp near Marshfield. He died after surgery at Mercy Hospital North Bend, with funeral plans set for the Norway Cemetery chapel. He was nearly 29 and leaves many friends and relatives.

Running Races Added to Fair Board Program

Secretary Whitaker of the Fair Board announces two daily running races with purses of 75 and 100 dollars each, alongside harness races. Local horses can compete, expect five races daily and 50 to 75 outside entrants. Anticipated improvements include new prizes, features, a revised score card, and a forthcoming premium list in three to four weeks.

Fire drill announced to be held every Friday evening

Fire Chief Broderick informs residents there will be a weekly drill each Friday night with a single short siren blast as the signal. Citizens are asked not to mistake the sound for an actual fire and to remain calm during the exercise.
