Return from California after long trip
Warren Deyoe and family returned Sunday from Watsonville California where they attended the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents. He noted the hoof and mouth disease is crippling Southern California stockmen and truck farmers and said inspections and fumigation held them up at the Oregon line and at several stations. A new fumigation plant north of the state line, finished Monday, will hold three cars and speed up travel for tourists. Deyoe said he was glad to be back in Coos county.

Big Creek brush fire devastates DeVaul logging camp
A Sunday morning blaze at the A. M. DeVaul Logging camp on Big Creek destroyed or damaged about 12,000,000 feet of fir and cedar logs. Salvaging will start soon. District Inspector Bashford oversaw slash burn control, while DeVaul delayed burning until more help could be mobilized.

The city votes Saturday March 1 from two to seven at City Hall on issuing $50,000 bonds to build a new high school and equip it. Voters must meet age and district residency rules. no school registration required. Citizens urged to turnout and support the education bond measure.
Thomas Evernden obituary details long life of community helper
Thomas Steven Evernden of Rock Creek born Rochester New York November 11 1851 son of English parents died April 26 1924 at age 72. He lived in Douglas County before settling in Rock Creek with Susie J Appleton his wife whom he wed August 27 1873. He left six sons and three daughters and a sister and brother. Funeral service was held April 28 194? at the Bridge church with Elder Thomas Barklow officiating and he was buried at Enchanted Prairie cemetery.
