Rumors high in Myrtle Point that a new fifty thousand dollar hotel will begin soon. Cal M. King returns from the legislature and revival of plans gains outside financial backing. Two store rooms on the first floor are expected, with one long term lease reportedly secured.
A week of changes sees Standard Oil and Shell re signing three year contracts for all Myrtle Point service stations except Auto Park, with pumps repainted and signs moved. The move jolts consumers to shop for preferred brands as a California style gas war reaches the coast.
Music lovers are promised a high class program next Wednesday night as the Willamette Glee Club of twenty one men performs at Union High School at eight. The group has toured for years and all singers are professionals. Post notices urge hosting guests and optional meals. Also reported are new initiates Roy Folsom Clarke Fenster and Grant McLellan to Coquille Valley Post 1412 WV FP and a banquet by the Auxiliary. The post bestowed thanks to local sponsors for a stand of colors with Myrtlewood base.
Miss Helen Whitaker, a Myrtle Point High School and University of Oregon graduate, stationed at Nanking with Presbyterian missions, has been ordered to vacate. Her family awaits news as she may head for Shanghai, following a five year term begun last September.
Albee and Brodrick, operators of the Auto Park garage, haul gravel to start construction of a new service station at the corner of Spruce and Eighth streets Myrtle Point as the Roseburg highway leaves the main street. Judge Bean dropped conspiracy charges and all charges against Davies, with trial proceedings possibly continuing for the other two defendants.
Myrtle Point youths Ray Storer and Fred Spires left yesterday for Nevada to try their luck in the gold rush sparked by the Weepah discovery two weeks earlier. Neither has mining experience but they expect excitement and prepared for various weather.
The Woman's Club meets on the fourth Monday at city hall with Mrs. Will Lundy hosting on the American Home topic. Due to illness, refreshments are organized by a list of hostesses. the club currently has 81 members, 71 paid, aiming for 100 by June for a stronger next year.

In limestone regions alfalfa bacteria persist in soil. in acidic soils clover and alfalfa bacteria falter and require frequent inoculation. Bacteria are grouped by crops and sold in bottles for 25 cents each, with one bottle inoculating about two acres.
Nick Carter of Myrtle Point is appointed to the Greater Oregon committee directorate by Dudley Clark. The group plans spring vacation programs at high schools and civic events, and a University of Oregon night in Portland linked to the glee club concert on March 22 at Broadway theatre. Carter oversees district roles as twelve district chairmen sit on the directorate.

Henry L. Bergman once Florence's bank president is jailed in Salem for 13 years after pleading guilty to bank fund crimes. He will work in a flax mill then in the prison fires department after arrival and placement in a fish cell. His wife remains at his side in sorrow as he heads to term.
Frank A Rowe departed last week with three car loads of Oregon maple. One car was billed to Cincinnati and two to Grand Rapids. The timber will be used in furniture manufacture.

He notes a century of tire and engine work on design for traction and braking. He cites a rise in annual long distance telephone calls from 280 million to 800 million since World War I.
Despite bad weather, the Methodist Episcopal church cornerstone ceremony proceeded with Dr. Chaney of Eugene delivering the main address. Civic leaders and church trustees stressed town growth tied to church prosperity while Mrs. G. E. Hamilton and others sent wishes via substitute speakers.

S S Reed of Twin Oaks returns home from Portland due to his mother 80 whose paralysis worsens. He says she is failing fast and the family fears the worst. The elderly woman was born near Myrtle Point and helped platted its townsite.
