Office of Receiver of Land Office Abolished in Oregon

After July 1, 15 the Roseburg land office Receiver position will be abolished and remittances for land office work must be payable to the Register rather than the Receiver. The Receiver’s office has been discontinued in all land offices in Oregon.

Lloyd Jarvis led his pack of dogs Tuesday morning on Indian Prairie where the dogs tracked a bobcat. In less than a mile the cat climbed a tree and Jarvis shot it after pursuit.

Bad Check Artist A Ts Strong Arrested in Myrtle Point

A Ts Strong of Bandon was arrested by Marshal Calver for passing a $25.50 bad check on E C Barker to balance a watch sale. A warrant existed for Strong’s arrest in Marshfield for a similar offense. He had been writing checks on Security Bank for over a month from Bandon Coquille Marshfield, with last evening’s Myrtle Point check touted as the sole one presented there.

Barn Fire Destroys Farm Equipment On Upper Catching Creek

Fire early Sunday morning destroyed John Faber's barn on Upper Catching Creek while Mr. Fabry and Adama milked cows. A gas engine powered milking gear ignited the blaze. stock escaped but machinery, separator, farm tools, and a nearby silo burned. Estimated loss about $2,000 with $200 insured on the barn.

School District No 41 Holds Harmonious Election

On Monday the district elected E. J. Schneider as director for three years and Metta Rosslow as clerk for one year. The budget was approved and the district extended credit to Union High District No 2, with repayment expected soon. Plans include adding art and music teachers and regaining possession of the old high school building with its piano and furniture.
