Mail from Sitkum leaves shortly before noon, arriving at Myrtle Point after the afternoon mail. Service runs six days a week, with a through line via Coquille starting after the first of July.

Reverend George Hoxie Remembered by Oregon Coast Surviving Family
Native of Maine and long time Oregon resident Reverend George Hoxie died in Redding California the first of the week at nearly 100 years old Uncle Tommy Barklow reported. He came to the coast about 40 years ago marrying Sarah Root of Arago and served at Williams Creek near Medford. He recalled a sea voyage from Maine when a whale boat capsized off Cape Horn spilling all aboard including him at sixteen. He later settled as an early Webfoot pioneer with deep ties to Myrtle Point and vicinity.

Dey Boys Father Dies During Ashland Visit
Dey, father of Ross Dey of Myrtle Point, died Friday night in Ashland after a long asthma illness. The body returned to Dayton for burial Tuesday. Born in Ohio at 73, he lived in North Dakota before moving to Dayton in 1910 to run a lumber business. He was a Mason and survived by wife and several children across Oregon and California.

Free Forest Maps Issued for Umpqua and Crater Forests
The Forest Service released folder maps for free public distribution covering two southern Oregon forests, the Umpqua and the Crater. Car Flips Over Near Myrtle Point Injuring Passengers
A Ford driven by J. W. Winningham and another unidentified man flipped three times on Catching Creek Road six miles from Myrtle Point. Winningham was tossed from the car and hurled during the first flip. the other passenger remained with the vehicle. A small dog in the car disappeared after the crash. The wreck was towed to Smery Superservice for possible repairs. Winningham had just returned from Phoenix after two years and this was his second crash since a collision near the Myrtle Point hotel last Saturday.
