The body of W H Whobrey was found in the road near Powers by Clifford Elford and road crew workers. Elford, jailed at Coquille, says they were attacked while returning from church. authorities hold him for investigation as autopsy is scheduled in Myrtle Point. Whobrey, 48, lifelong Coos county resident, leaves a son who died in infancy and several relatives. he belonged to Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen and will be buried at Catching Creek cemetery.

Veterans of all wars, aided by ladies auxiliaries and citizens, paid tribute at Myrtle Point cemetery on Decoration Day. Rev. Leander Smith delivered the Memorial address at the Church of the Brethren. The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce band led the procession from Perkins drug store to the church and onward to the cemetery where a green mat, red poppies, and a cross were placed.
