After Allied successes, Myrtle Point residents led by the Home Guard marched through town dragging a dummy figure of the Kaiser to a bonfire. Buglers played taps, celebratory guns fired, and crowds gathered at the American office amid rapid news updates.
A sizable group from the vicinity left Sunday and Monday for Camp Lewi to train before heading to the front. The list includes Frank Gilbert and many others from Powers, Myrtle Point, Coquille, Sitkum, Gravel Ford and nearby towns. The Marshfield Ladies Canteen served a hearty lunch as the group departed on Monday.
Miss Doolittle from the Agricultural Extension speaks to Boys and Girls of the Agriculture and Home Economics clubs in Myrtle Point. She arrives Wednesday at 10 AM at the Grammar School for a club meeting and returns at 2 PM for a canning demonstration at Mrs Annin's home.
The Home Guard needs fifteen more muskets for drills until replacements arrive, offering to borrow any type muzzle loaders. The Chautauqua stage features floral decorations by Mr. Laing, with bouquets gifted to Miss Hays by Mrs. Selcher and to Mr. Yanko by Mrs. Felcher. Also noted is an arrest for liquor production in Powers Haben, resulting in a $200 fine and asset mortgage.
Goldie Michaels wed Rosette in a Sunday evening ceremony at the Christian church in Marshfield. The event, planned as a picnic, drew a large gathering of friends and relatives from Myrtle Point and surrounding areas. Mrs Rasette will resume work in Myrtle Point, with Mr Rosette continuing duties at the shipyard.
Oregon Power Company announces a planned power outage Sunday July 28 from 8 A M to 6 P M due to line cuts on high tension circuits. Consumers are advised the service may be interrupted while repairs are completed.
