Crowds filled the Chautauqua venue as lectures music and readings delighted all ages. Organizers report profits, with guarantors expected to cover about five dollars each after bills are settled.
The county health board released a late week report detailing a surge in tuberculosis cases and four suspected patients awaiting confirmation. Officials urged clinics to increase screening and report new cases promptly.
Ke Barker has plans ready and work will begin soon to remodel the front of his building on Spruce Street, currently occupied by the Dixie Queen confectionery. The front will be brought out with the True building adjoining the Barker block area completed the store. Work may involve J. Joe as the Gewsiy store and Dixie Queen confectionery in the vicinity.
A large crowd of relatives gathered at the Lixom grove on Sunday for a family picnic and reunion. Mrs. Bradford Blake formerly Margaret Williams, visiting from Caretha California, and her sister Mrs. Hoffman are among the honored guests. The group plans a Willamette valley visit then return to Humboldt County via Crater Lake Ashland and Klamath Falls.

Rose Mary Jersey owned by Millard Martin produced 1475 pounds milk 92.8 fat. Hasel Guernsey owned by Jim Williams produced 2108 pounds milk 92.8 fat. Ten unprofitable cows were disposed for the business.

A meeting in Coquille last week drew 36 000 feds and another is planned at Coquille City Hall on July 27 to regulate egg marketing against chain-store price manipulation.
Myrtle Point volunteers host a benefit street dance on Fifth Street in front of the post office to aid the Firemen's fund with Bowers orchestra providing music. Local families visit relatives and relocate to Glendale for the week as some members recover from knee injuries.

Andrew Doyle, 30, foreman and hook ax man in the Tim Sullivan camp on Sandy Creek, died at Mast & Wilson hospital after injuries from the previous day. He leaves a wife in Coquille, a stepson in Marshfield, and a 16 year old daughter in Coquille. Funeral by C. W. Gano at Ellingsen chapel, Coquille, with burial there. He belonged to the I C C F order.
Adams and Nick Perkins plan operation of a three passenger airplane based in Myrtle Point. The aircraft is being built in Wichita Kansas and will be delivered early next month. Adams is a World War I air service veteran and will pilot the craft for hire.
Dancers and guests at Gravelford will enjoy a barbecue supper after a benefit dance Saturday evening. Booster Al Bezosky announced the plan for funds toward a new community hall with a stage and kitchen to support future social events. The Ford dances raise money for the hall being erected for community use.
District 41 school board announces the gymnasium at the new grade school will be fully completed along with the building. Officials say careful budgeting allowed finish within current taxes.
The city council discussed paying contractor Whelander fifty percent of a cement bill for reservoir improvements, considered Fire Men’s fire menace on burned Train properties, and ordered a city survey to map needed sidewalks. New sprinkling hours were set for summer evenings with penalties for violations. Mayor Dement presided with most members present.
City Recorder E A Dodge will take about a week off from duties as city recorder, police court judge and U S commissioner. Council approved his vacation plan on Monday night. If needed, cases would go to justice court in Coquille. This is his first vacation in years and he has not decided on plans.
