Three or four carloads of people motored down from Coquille for a funeral. The group included Geo. Davis and wife and A. H. Bender and wife with friends. From this city came Mrs. Ed Bender, Gus Diets and family, and H. A. Schroeder and wife.
J N Gearhart of Dora begins operating his irrigation pump to water his garden amid a dry season. He notes local farmers have good crops but would yield more with irrigation as the land dries quickly.
Promoter J Jameson of Marshfield announces a big wrestling evening with a main event featuring Fabre Shee Ray. The card includes two sharp matches and a crowded house is expected as fans are urged to come early.
The American urges a city run swimming pool after the death of a boy in a river swim. A. C. Train offers one hundred dollars toward the project to keep youths under supervision and reduce danger. The paper supports a self sustaining facility with small user fees and city oversight.
P L Phelan a longtime lumberman and Powers resident died after surgery at Smedburg Sanitarium Marshfield for stomach cancer. Born in Nova Scotia he was 61. Survived by widow and two children Preston and Rosemary. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Wilson chapel with Myrtle Point Masons officiating burial at Sunset cemetery.
Farmers endure heat as city residents fan themselves, amid tramps and idle laborers. A portable exhibit claim reads Harvest hands want ed, reflecting rural frustration with urban spectators.
The farming business, hardest hit by the 1921 depression, uses advertising the least. The sector that does advertise feels the downturn less acutely.
The Myrtle Point school board seeks volunteers to clean and repair a badly marred building before fall. A cleanup gang will work starting August 7th, with students and community members assisting. report to Mr. E J Schneider at the post office by August 1st. The effort supports calcimining and plastering funded by the board.
Workers began grading Monday for a street project. Crushed gravel will follow grading, and Spruce street hill pavement work is planned soon. The hill has long been in bad shape with heavy daily traffic, so the upgrades will significantly improve travel.
Ed Van De Carr, missing for days, was found floating in the bay behind the city hall Tuesday night. The night enginee r at the fire hall discovered the body. The death is believed to be suicide, amid illness and a pending divorce suit filed by his wife.
A large crowd gathered at J. N. Gearhart farm in Dora for a picnic last Sunday. Attendees travelled from across the valley and plan another similar gathering each Sunday this season. After a hearty basket dinner on a hay rack, families enjoyed swimming in the North York river with activities for children at the shallow end and more adventurous swimming at the deep water.
Mr and Mrs Bud Emery welcomed a 10 pound baby boy on Friday July 14 and Mrs Emery is in Smedburg sanitarium Marshfield and is reported to be doing nicely.
A social gathering notes a picnic planned for next Sunday with attendees including J. N. Gearhart and family, Glen Shores and family, Marion Norton from Coquille, L. W. Oddy and family, J. L. Crosby and family, K. E. Marcey, L. L. Leatherman and family, Tom Garronne and family, O. G. Bunch and family, H. Sheppard and wife, Mrs. Ezra Watson, E. Gone Mike Minard and the Rolsmith pair.
