A large canopy, wind break, tents and tables hosted the Ray reunion near Empire drawing about 130 attendees from Kansas, Iowa, the north and the south. The Fourth was celebrated with a Hale Brothers piano, 50 old songs, Calithumpian band of about 40, and varied programs including addresses and solos. Lee and Mollie Ray families connected for the first time in years as old residents returned for the gathering.

Fourth Has Usual Toll of Accidents in Celebration

Robert L Weekly Dies After Logging Camp Accident
Robert L Weekly, 60, died about 11 PM after a logging accident at Bridge. He was struck by a log while assisting unloading, suffered serious injuries, and died in Myrtle Point. Born July 27 1864 in Douglas County Oregon, he moved to Coos County in 1873 and married Mary P Bright in 1867. He leaves ten children and a funeral is planned with interment in Dora cemetery.

Thye Defeats Grant in Portland Wrestling Match
