Recount Expected to Put Hall Ahead in Oregon Race

Supporters say a recount in Oregon will place Chas Hall in the lead for the nomination over Olcott. A lawsuit R R Coster v Ben W Olcott was filed at Salem alleging irregularities. if Hall gains one vote in 256 of 350 contested precincts the nomination could swing. Five carloads of gypsies passed through Coos County and Coquille, briefly tied to a sheriff led eviction in the area.

Celebration at North Bend draws wide regional turnout

A large delegation from the Upper Coquille River Valley attended the North Bend celebration from Powers to Bandon. The event passed with little disorder as the new American Legion hall filled to capacity and visitors praised the post spirit and the community welcome.

Old Pioneer Passes on Fourth of July in City

John M. Sturdivant one of the region's oldest pioneers died at his home on July Fourth after a year of feebleness and long arteriosclerosis. Rev Garret conducted funeral services at the chapel, with burial at Norway cemetery beside Masonic rites. A large crowd of friends and relatives attended, extending condolences to the family.

Ash beds ideal for starting pastures in Oregon

Ash bed soils from brush and forest fires create ideal seed beds for pasture grasses in western Oregon. Oregon Agricultural College experiment results show a persistent mix including English rye grass, orchard grass, bluegrass, meadow fescue, timothy and clovers. Seed rates reach 18 to 20 pounds per acre channeling 140 to 150 live seeds per square foot, with testing advised and early fall seeding preparation.

Norway Ladies Club Hosts Meeting for Welfare Work

The Norway Ladies' club met at J. H. Barklow's home and held a wool pulling for mattresses. Members brought lunches and enjoyed a picnic dinner under trees before resuming work. The group, meeting biweekly, aids community welfare and member needs, with next gathering at Mrs. J. C. Lett's home.

Picnic at Norway Grove Brings Dairymen Families Together

A Fourth of July picnic at Norway Grove by local dairymen and families drew a good crowd despite work commitments. The event featured sports and games and friendly remarks about balancing duties with celebration. In other local action, Coquille lost to Bandon 4 to 3 after an error in the seventh inning.
