Mrs Lee Ray officially represented the local Grange at a Corvallis school for lecturers last week. The event featured addresses by O A C leaders, Pomona Grange officers, and university faculty. A demonstration program by O A C sociology followed, with lectures on community drama and a debate on federal reclamation policy. The gathering, described as a first of its kind in the state, is expected to become annual.

County Bankers Meet For Annual Election
The Coos County Bankers Association met in Marshfield at the Chandee for its annual meeting and officer election. John Ferguson was reelected president, C. P. Kibler vice president, and E. M. Bowman secretary and treasurer. Principal speakers included A. A. Schram of Corvallis State Bank and Andrew Miller of the Oregon Bankers association. Attendees from Myrtle Point included J. H. Ottmar, A. J. Radabaugh, Clark Fenaler, Ralph Kring of Bank of Myrtle Point, and Karl Kaufmar, Harry Dement, Wallace Dement of Security Bank.

Canadian Youth Wins Wrigley Channel Swim Prize
George Young, a 17 year old Canadian, won the $25 000 Wrigley prize for the first to brave the currents and hills of the Catalina Channel about 22 miles. The event drew 103 entrants. Young finished in 15 hours 48 minutes 35 seconds. Teammates Wauser of Long Beach and Breger of Portland earned $2600 for endurance. Young, who had only sixty cents when starting, had driven to California in a friend’s motorcycle with his mother a widow at home in Toronto seeking to return after the race.

Remembered Pioneer Fred A Evernden Passes at 48
Fred A Evernden born near Bridge Oregon January 26 1878 was a Coos county farmer with ties to Coquille. He married Amanda Vowell on January 26 1919 and died January 13 1927 at his home aged 48 years 11 months 13 days. He is survived by his wife five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at Ellingson chapel with interment in Masonic cemetery.

Painter J. T. Baker Missing After Illness and Job Search
J T Baker a partner with D L Cox and owner of a paint shop near the Arlington store has not been seen since Saturday afternoon. He had been ill with the grip and recently discharged from Community General hospital. He told friends he feared he might not recover and planned to check on a painting job then visit E P Adams before returning. He left with Mr Reed to search for a lost cow and was last seen heading toward town without returning. Searches and a missing-person inquiry proceed with no clues yet.

City Council Plans Deliberations on Water Rates and Street Work

Mrs Homer Gant Succumbs to Illness in San Diego
Word arrived this week that Mrs Helen Nelson Gant formerly of Centralia Washington died in San Diego after an operation. She had been ill with tuberculosis and was treated in a sanitarium there. Burial plans call for the body to be shipped to Centralia for interment.

American Legion Enjoys Program at Odd Fellows Hall
The American Legion held an evening of business and pleasure in Odd Fellow's Hall. Emery Eggers was initiated. A new flag purchased by the Legion was used for the first time. Helen Bellings sang with Mrs. Ellis Dement. Miss Billie Lund performed a toe dance and little Ellen Lund did the Charleston. Earl Thompson spoke on sailors and showed a contortion act. A big feed followed and a membership contest with Clark Fensler and P Q Lund sides concluded with a banquet to the winners.
