Senator Hall breaks with Portland allies to oppose the gas tax fair bill, arguing roads need ongoing funding from gasoline taxes. He recalls touring Oregon highways, defends a three cent tax for maintenance, and warns of pavement holes if revenue falls short.
The Southern Coos County American at Myrtle Point issued a 38 page holiday number praised for its editorial and mechanical quality. It featured 26 pages of display advertising from local merchants with strong local buy, while other city firms also appeared in the issue.
A Myrtle Point editorial urges community members and business folk to meet the new year with faith and courage. It calls for peaceful national readjustments, poverty reduction, and a practical partnership between capital and labor to ensure peace and prosperity.

The California Rail Commission mandates auto stages transporting passengers in the state to stop 50 to 75 feet from steam or interurban electric tracks. Drivers must look both ways for trains before crossing. The rule excludes stages operating entirely within municipalities on street railroads. Why not Oregon as well?

Commencing today a new schedule on the S P line gives Powers a double daily train service. Trains 501 and 502 will run from here through Powers to Portland, starting at 6 45 in the morning. Trains 505 and 506 remain unchanged.
The Myrtle Point Transportation Company runs riverboats on the Coquille and may have the youngest captain. Arthur Panter, often master of the steamer Telegraph, is only 22 and holds pilot papers. In Oregon, the Dairymen's League again voted on dissolution this week, with results not yet known.
