Myrtle Point Mayor Resigns. Baynes Elected Unanimously

At a council meeting Myrtle Point accepts the resignation of Mayor Dement as he moves away. W W Baynes is nominated and seated as mayor by unanimous vote, amid praise for Dement’s three year administration and city improvements. Several citizens considered for the vacant council seat.

Big Party at Bridge

Mr and Mrs Murphy and their daughter Helen Milings entertained at Murphy's ball for eighty guests from Marshfield Coquille Myrtle Point and Bridge. The event was a Rube party with guests in old fashioned clothes. A dinner followed by fiddler and pianist music led to old fashioned dances late in the evening.

County Teachers Elect Officers and Delegates

The Grunty Teachers Association met at the county superintendent's office to elect officers for the current year and designate delegates and alternates to the state convention. Officers chosen include President J Clifton Tecker and Vice President O L Willis, with Miss Alice Quetin as treasurer and other slated roles. Britton's Will Leaves Heirloom Estates to Family

Britton died in September at his daughter's home Mrs. G M Parker. His estate valued at 30000 is divided among G M Parker 90000, Stella Lyford granddaughter 4300, Claudia Parker granddaughter 3600, George Parte Jr grandson 5000, Mrs. G M Parker daughter, with the balance to herself. Elephant misfortune follows Honest Bill circus roam

The Myrtle Point report recalls the Honest Bill circus near Port Orford and Bandon where elephants caused damage including a ranch break in and a partial fatality. Lions and other animals also injured a boy, while the caravan faced transport hardships and animal pity as the troupe moved south along rough routes.

Bank of Myrtle Point Plans Improvements

At the regular monthly directors meeting, the Bank of Myrtle Point voted the regular annual dividend and approved extensive interior renovations. A new burglar and fireproof vault will be installed along with new bank furniture and a directors room. The N. P. Peterson store will relocate its grocery department into the bank building fronting 71 Spruce Street, previously the dry goods department and Peterson office.

Chamber of Commerce to Meet at Myrtle Hotel Dining Room

The executive committee of the chamber of commerce will hold its next meeting Tuesday evening in the dining room of the Myrtle hotel. All Myrtle Point men are invited to attend and sit in with the committee. Elmer Russell at the bakery should be notified if attending. The group met earlier at the Club Café and discussed a donation to the Pacific Rescue and Protective Association.

Bay cities set to lift quarantine as cases remain nil

If no new cases of infantile paralysis appear in Marshfield and North Bend, the quarantine in force for about a month will end Friday night. Bandon Myrtle Point and Coquille already moved to lift their quarantines. Araga will end quarantine Friday night and school will reopen Monday if no further cases arise. Churches in Myrtle Point schedule services, theatres in Coquille and Myrtle Point resume.

Tucker Family Returns From Portland for Thanksgiving

J. H. Tucker arrived with his family from Portland for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Tucker underwent an appendectomy on November 29 and is recovering at Good Samaritan hospital. Mr. Tucker will move on to Marshfield for accounting work, and Mrs. Tucker will stay until after the holidays. She plans to resume her music class and lead the choral club which plans an Easter cantata.

Empire Development aims to revive old city with new industry hub

The Empire Development Company announced plans to rehabilitate Old City of Empire into a modern industrial center. It purchased 4000 acres from North Bend to Searth Inlet with docks, sawmills, canneries, and water rights, and began land clearing, street grading, a water system, and channel dredging.
