Train Delay on Eugene Powers Branch Causes Overnight Suspension
A Southern Pacific line between Eugene and Powers was halted after a landslide three miles from Mapleton. The slide covered about 75 feet of track to depths of five to seven feet, with rocks in the loose earth hindering cleanup. The outgoing train waited at Cushman until the line reopened. a steam shovel was deployed near Myrtle Point.

Car Crash Delays Young Women Near Eugene
Misses Helen Whitaker Ethel Frazier and Edna Johnson were in a car driven by T B Johnson that overturned on a slick road near Eugene last Saturday. The vehicle suffered heavy damage while the other car was less harmed. They aimed to return to Myrtle Point for school but a delayed train held them up, arriving about 3 am Tuesday with one girl late to class.

New Hotel Planned for Powers After Fire Loss
Plans are underway to replace the destroyed Collier hotel in Powers with a new, larger structure opposite the Bank of Powers. Landlord Collier and wife secured plans in Marshfield this week and work will begin after insurers adjust claims. Total insured loss was nine thousand dollars with the Collier hotel listed at six hundred.
