Myrtle Point Rod and Gun Club Meeting Notice

A meeting is set for Tuesday evening December 12 at 7 30 p m in the Council rooms to organize the Myrtle Point Rod and Gun Club. All interested are invited to join to promote close cooperation among members and liberal distribution of fish fry and game birds from the Fish and Game Commission. The club plans trap and shoot clay birds for practice and enjoyment.

Two men interested in growing berries and small fruits gathered at the Train restaurant now occupied by Mr Bearklow on Tuesday evening. A preliminary plan was made for formal organization and a committee was appointed to set a January meeting, perfect the group, and elect officers.

Residence Burns on East Spruce Street

Fire destroyed the Sturdivant home on East Spruce Street around 1:30am Wednesday. Firefighters could not salvage anything beyond charred walls. Ira Sturdivant reported about 1000 dollars of insurance on the building, furniture insurance unclear. Origin of the blaze remains unknown.

Train Delay on Eugene Powers Branch Causes Overnight Suspension

A Southern Pacific line between Eugene and Powers was halted after a landslide three miles from Mapleton. The slide covered about 75 feet of track to depths of five to seven feet, with rocks in the loose earth hindering cleanup. The outgoing train waited at Cushman until the line reopened. a steam shovel was deployed near Myrtle Point.

Car Crash Delays Young Women Near Eugene

Misses Helen Whitaker Ethel Frazier and Edna Johnson were in a car driven by T B Johnson that overturned on a slick road near Eugene last Saturday. The vehicle suffered heavy damage while the other car was less harmed. They aimed to return to Myrtle Point for school but a delayed train held them up, arriving about 3 am Tuesday with one girl late to class.

New Council Members Take Oath of Office in City Meeting

Monday evening the full old council attended roll call except Councilman Cutler away in California. Re-elected Mayor Schroede leads new sworn-in members Dement Davis Weekly and Recorder Dodge. Retiring are Cutler Roberts and Michaels. Committees and appointments follow with confirmations of city attorney Claude Giles and health officer W L Pemberton, Redell named city marshal at salary.

The short session opens with a break from a long established practice as the president delays the annual message. In 1855 Pierce delayed due to House disorganization, and this year delays are attributed to public business and ongoing official discussions. The message is expected to come a few days later.

New Hotel Planned for Powers After Fire Loss

Plans are underway to replace the destroyed Collier hotel in Powers with a new, larger structure opposite the Bank of Powers. Landlord Collier and wife secured plans in Marshfield this week and work will begin after insurers adjust claims. Total insured loss was nine thousand dollars with the Collier hotel listed at six hundred.
