Oregon Editors See Coos County Cooperatives on 110 Mile Tour

The Oregon State Editorial Association held its annual sessions in Marshfield with a sightseeing circuit through Coquille Point Myrtle Point and Bandon. Delegates visited creameries and lumber plants, toured North Bend, Shore Acres, and Sunset Beach, and enjoyed banquets, music, and hospitality, praising local dairying and community cooperation.

Powers Guard To Open Armory With Dance In Coos County

The Powers Guard plans a countywide armory opening dance on Saturday August 24 to raise funds for building costs. The 50 by 120 foot floor will accommodate up to 800 couples and tickets are one dollar with free refreshments. A program and speaker will precede the music and attendees are invited from across the county to support the project. Meanwhile Joseph Decker, a bridge carpenter with the S P near here, died suddenly from a chest hemorrhage after illness. His body was sent to Gates Oregon for burial.

Forest Fire Fatalities Reported Near Walker's Prairie

Two forest fire fighters Robert Bevilash and Malcolm D. sacrificed while battling flames near Walker's Prairie on Cow Creek. A third, Goldthorp, was badly burned and died after rushing six miles for help as Benham perished at the scene. Fire still raged as details reach the town. Red Cross dance advertised to aid funds and church notices urge attendance. A new soldier arrives at Myrtis Point to stay with postmaster H Fensler as he recuperates before deployment.
