Royal Neighbors Hold County Meet With Local Pleasures

Royal Neighbors from Marshfield North Bend Powers and beyond attended a county gathering in Coos County. Eva Hazelwood led hall decorations in purple and white lilacs as Myrtle Point and Azalia members staged initiations and two act plays. Mrs Mary A Huling broke her hip after a fall about a week ago. She is in home care with her daughter and Mrs Campbell and, at the last reports, was doing as well as could be expected.

Five Die In Marshfield Fire At Noble Building

A blaze in Marshfield killed six people and destroyed substantial property valued around 35 000 dollars. The Noble Building housed H Hopps and family, whose wife and three children perished. Mrs Watton later died from injuries after being carried from the burning structure. The fire was first spotted by the Motor Garage night watchman, origin undetermined. the Coos Bay Times published a special edition.

Pioneer Laura L Watson Dies in Coquille Home

Mrs. Laura L. Watson mother of the county clerk at Coquille died at her daughter’s Coquille home Monday morning from complications of old age. Born in Platte County Missouri in 1849 she crossed the plains with her parents in 1866 to Jacksonville Oregon and later came to Coos County on her wedding trip to marry David L Watson. Her passing marks another loss among the early settlers who helped build the region.

Bear attacker killed after sheep ranch chase

Lloyd Jarvis tracked a large bear near Coquille on Tuesday with his dogs. The bear killed 15 sheep for Dr. Boyd and earned Jarvis $100 plus a bear worth 300 to 400 pounds. Jarvis killed the bear with a shot from a tree, and the event highlights his canine hunting work for the State Game Commission.
