Sunset Bay to Host Oregon Marine Biology Station

The University of Oregon will establish Oregon’s first marine biology station at Sunset Bay three miles south of Coos Bay during the summer session from June 22 to July 31. Dr. Harry B. Yocum will lead courses in marine zoology with Ethel S. Sanborn directing paleobotany research, and the site offers diverse coastal conditions for field study.

Judge Kendall Back from Portland for County Court Sessions

Circuit Court Judge J C Kendall returns from Portland where he exchanged with Judge Walter Evans. He will preside over motion day Tuesday and Wednesday with many cases to hear in Curry County. Arthur Covall and L W Peare were resentenced on May 22 after appeals were dismissed. The judge then heads to Eugene to exchange with Judge Skipworth and to Portland again due to judge shortages. Ashby Dixon will not assume duties until June 1. Returning from Eugene, Kendall will oversee Curry County session of the circuit court.

General move tightens storefront line on Main Street

Covell and Peare to Wag May 22 Hanging in Coos County

The Oregon case sets May 22 for the executions of murderers Covell and Peare in Coos County. Both men were found guilty after fair trials and appeals were denied by the supreme court. Covell admitted involvement in his sister in law's murder, while Peare killed a neighbor during a drunken spree.
