Pvt. John Rushton Honored With Burial Rites
Military services for Pvt. John Rushton were held by the Progress post of the American Legion at the 75th street chapel. Southside firemen prepare an active campaign to educate residents on reducing fire loss during the annual fire prevention week from next Monday to October 9. State Board OKs One CHA Site and Holds Up Another
The State Housing Board approved the disputed CHA relocation site at 44th Street and Cicero Avenue and delayed action on the 33rd Street Hoyne Avenue site. Southeast Sider Killed In L C Railroad Yard
A coroner's jury ruled the death of Oscar Johnson accidental after he was struck by a backing Illinois Central passenger train in the 13th street yards. Johnson, 51, of 1015 East 72nd Street, worked in baggage at the 12th Street station and is survived by a widow, three daughters, a son, nine grandchildren, his mother, and a sister.

Woodlawn Church Plans Rededication After 1947 Fire
Woodlawn United Presbyterian Church at 62nd Street and Woodlawn Avenue will rededicate Sunday at 11 am led by Rev. Charles Raymond Graham, newly ordained pastor. The fire that gutted the building caused about 58 000 in damages, with services held in the basement and Bridle school room since. A 7 45 pm service will include Chicago Presbytery greetings and speakers led by Dr Ross C Gibson, with Dr Carl W McGeehon and others. A Legion color guard will present an American flag, and a pipe organ from the Woodlawn Boys Club will be dedicated. Open house follows with refreshments. The church has stood in the community since 1895 and moved to its present building in 1897.
